In the Umuofian society, the children were treated like property and very poorly. This video gives a slight demonstration of the life of a Umuofian Child.
Kinship: (noun)
A blood relationship that connects a group of people; family.

In the Umuofia culture, kinship is held in high regard. A man has numerous wives, and many children that all share a compound. Children and women are seen as property and each individual represents the family as a whole. The father is the head of the house and the disciplinary figure. The children essentially belonged to him, however, if a man must flee for an ochu or a nso-ani, the family of that individual flees to the motherland. The mother is the protector and nurturer of the family.
