religion began to clash
cultural change: (noun)the alterations a society makes to its culture, either by fusion of another, or to change a situation.

The whitemen (British missionaries) emerged into the Umuofia community with their own beliefs, traditions, customs, and language. After the two cultures began to meet, concepts and ideas of economics and religion began to take place.

The whitemen introduced the concept of trade and value. Everyday aspects of the clansman's life such as the kola nut and yams held an economic value, as well as their cultural value.

Along with economic change, the British missionaries brought along with them Christianity. Although many aspects of the new and existing religion were alike, the missionaries did not recognize the similarities. Some Umuofians were strongly influenced and converted to the new religion. Their customs and traditions changing to those of Christianity.
