Social Control: (noun)
the justice administered to uphold the standards and conduct expected from each individual within the community

Each village including Umuofia incorporates what is known as an evil forest in their community. This is a specific area in the village where they dispose of abominations, such as, twins and suicide victims, as well as, evil omens. The forest separates this evil from the spiritually enlightened.

Social order was completely transferred to the British after the missionary movement. Although it contradicted the Umuofian customs, the British enforced their own justice system. They applied their religion and beliefs, holding those standards to the Umuofians.
