isa-ifi: a ceremony. if a wife had been separated from her husband for some time and were then to be re-united with him, this ceremony would be held to ascertain that she had not been unfaithful to him during the time of their separation.

the kola nut illistrates tradition, beliefs and customs within the Umuofia community. As a symbol of respect and welcome, the Umuofia's share the kola nut at meetings and discussions of various topics and while visiting with respected and trusted friends, family, and peers. 




An Ogbaje is an impossible child to raise. Dying only to re-enter the mothers womb and be born repeatedly, the child is connected to the spiritual world. This connection is held with the iyi-iwa, otherwise known as a stone that must be discovered and destroyed to end the cycle of rebirth.
